For the past several years, The National Christmas Tree
Association has commissioned public surveys to measure attitudes,
trends and activities associated with Christmas.
NCTA recently sponsored questions on a consumer
tracking poll that compared participation in holiday activities
between 1996 and 2005. According to Beth Walterscheidt,
President-Elect of NCTA, "The results showed a stunning 20% decline
in activities normally considered part of the spirit of Christmas
and family holiday traditions."

be working with a professional polling firm to publish an annual Christmas SPIRIT Index based on survey results. The Christmas SPIRIT
Index will be available during the 2005 holiday season. |
